To commemorate International Holocaust Remembrance Day this year, Yad Vashem is set to open an installation on Thursday at United Nations Headquarters in New York. This is a book with the names of 4.8 million murder victims. The blank pages at the end, however, are particularly intrusive.
This large-scale exhibition, titled "The Book of Names", lists in alphabetical order the names of 4.8 million Holocaust victims whose identities are known to Yad Vashem. The Book of Names is 26.45 feet (8 meters) long, 6.56 feet (2 meters) high and 3.3 feet (one meter) wide. It ends with blank pages in memory of the 1.2 million Jewish victims who remain unidentified."
