Stalin’s place of birth was GORI, Georgia. It was home to one of the largest Georgian Jewish populations of the time.
The First In-Depth Biography Based on Explosive New Documents from Russia's Secret Archives -
“His mother did the laundry for a Jewish merchant who traded there”
“...112-year-old Hana Moshiashvili, a Georgian Jewish woman, once a friend of Keke [Stalin's mother], who emigrated to Israel in 1972”
“Keke often worked now in the houses of rich Jewish traders.”
More: "Keke often worked in the houses of rich Jewish traders in GORI, and sometimes took her son along."
Stalin's mother's grave has a Jewish Shabbat Kiddish cup covered with a shroud. This is a standard mark for a buried Jew. See graves from a purely Jewish cemetery in Brooklyn - "Only for jews"
Stalin's father - A journalist in the Los Angeles B’nai B’rith Messenger, March 3, 1950, column 2, page 5 wrote: “Former Soviet general says Joseph Stalin is of Jewish origin.” Many White Russians who fled the Bolsheviks say Stalin was a Jew. One of them, a captain in the tsarist army, claimed that he knew Stalin as a child and that Stalin’s father (Dzhugashvili) was a “Jewish shoemaker”.
Jewish writer Louis Levine, in Soviet Russia Today (1946) -
"Anti-Semitism in any shape, form or manner simply does not exist in the Soviet Union" (pg 14)
"The Jewish people are unanimous in their love for Stalin. They regard him as the greatest friend of the Jewish people. They attribute to his understanding of national minorities and to his leadership the new, exalted status of the Soviet Jews. I need not add that the Soviet Jews greeted with joy the news that Stalin and the father of his prospective Jewish son-in-law drank “L'CHAIM” together in the Kremlin!" (pg 31)
“saying l’chaim has an undeniable place in the CHASSIDISHE (ie., Hasidic-CHABAD) lifestyle”

“Stalin's former mistress, the Jewess, R. M. Kaganovitch, is now his wife, after the mysterious suicide of his first wife; and her father, a former cobbler, is the acting dictator of the Soviet whenever Stalin is absent. Harry A. Frank, in his book A Vagabond in Sovietland, p. 97, pictures Stalin's psychology towards his deceased wife as follows: "... Stalin . . . killed his wife after a party one evening and had her cremated before lunch the next day and no questions asked." There are six members of this Kaganovitch family who are now holding between them not less than 22 high political offices, the most important part of the Kremlin government, including the key positions in industry and foreign trade. Thus Stalin, who, like Lenin in his time, only speaks Yiddish at home, is entirely surrounded with a Jewish, or rather Yiddish "brain trust," which is furnishing him with ideas and suggestions for directing the nation's business, consistently, in the interest of the Jewish minority. “ (Page 85)

“The fact that a large number of Stalin's highest officials and military heads are married to Jewesses, indicates that the controlling power of the Jews is indeed far higher than ordinarily assumed. Recent appointments from among the Jews show that of late the Jews' position within the Bolsheviki regime has rather been strengthened, than weakened.” (Page 91-92)

"Stalin then organized the Eastern European Communist states to vote for the creation of Israel as a the decisive bloc that provided the two-thirds majority needed for victory in the UN vote of November 29, 1947. ... David Ben-Gurion once said that without the Soviet arms the state would never have survived the onslaught of five Arab armies."

It is claimed that Dzhugashvili means "son of a Jew" in Georgian. It's true that "shvili" means son, but "Dzhuga" doesn't mean "Jew" in Georgian. This theory seems to have originated with a "Ukrainian anti-Semite". Although it doesn't mean "son of a Jew" in Georgian, he was still telling the truth.

Currently, there is no official information about the origin of "Dzhuga". It has no meaning in Georgian, therefore it must be an alien term for the Georgian language.

Joseph Hutton points out something interesting in his book "Stalin: The Miraculous Georgian"

He stated that Stalin was the descendant of Portuguese Jews from an island called Dzhu. According to him, this island is located in the Gulf of Cambay. This is the Gulf of Cambay:

As you can see on the map, there is an island called "Diu". It was indeed a Portuguese colony, the Portuguese fort still exists there.

As for Portuguese Jews, there were indeed Jews in Diu according to the Jewish source "India's Bene Israel"

"Dzhuga" is actually a synonym for a mountain JEW, according to the work "An Ethnohistorical Dictionary of the Russian and Soviet Empires"

More: From the Slavic journal article "Are They Jews or Asians? A Cautionary Tale about Mountain Jewish Ethnography" -

"The term gorskie evrei (Mountain Jews) first appeared in documents of the colonialist administration in the Caucasus around 1825, a period of active annexation of Mountain Jewish territory.'4 Locally, Mountain Jews were known as dzhukhur, meaning "another faith" (or, more to the point, dif-ferent than Muslims).l5 Iu. I. Murzakhanov, a late twentieth-century ethnographer of Mountain Jews and a Mountain Jew himself, postulates that by naming them "Mountain Jews," tsarist bureaucrats tried to show that Mountain Jews differed significantly from Ashkenazim, most of all in material culture.'6 Tsarist officials had to differentiate between theJews in the Pale of Settlement and the Jews of the Caucasus in order to enact ap-propriate military, political, economic, and moral agendas.'

Note: 15. Igor' Semenov writes that Mountain Jews "call themselves dzh u' ur or dzh i' ur (among neighbors-dzh u ur). Dzhuur is the typical name for Jews in the Muslim east, and it is a word that comes from a distortion of iakhudi-Jews. The appearance of 'r' in the name dzh u' u ur-is a consequence of rotatsizma, characteristic of all Iranian languages along the Caspian Sea and also of the dialect of Persian, which the Jews speak." Igor' Semenov, Kavkazskiet aty i gorskie evrei: Nekotoryes vedenii o nikh i problemyp roiskhozhdeniia (Kazan', 1992)

Yet, even more information. According to this website, the alternative names for Judeo-Tat are: Bik, Dzhuhuric, Hebrew Tat, Jewish Tat, Judeo-Tatic, Juhuri, Lahji, Mountain Jewish, Tati

So, several sources confirm that "Dzhuga" is a synonym for mountain Jew. That means that the "Dzhugashvili = son of a Jew" claim makes sense.
