Ukrainian security services are alarming: the war is moving to the world of children and youth. The Security Service of Ukraine together with the National Police thwarted preparations for terrorist attacks in two regions of the country. In both cases - as the investigators emphasize - the inspiration was the Russian special services.
In the statement of the services, we read that the detained high school students were supposed to "blow up their own schools and shoot their classmates". This sentence, although it sounds like a movie script, is part of a real investigation. Officers revealed that young people were recruited via the Internet - mainly through the Telegram messenger and platforms such as TikTok.
The manipulation mechanism was precisely planned. According to the SBU, teenagers were persuaded with slogans about "justice" or "punishment of the guilty". In fact, according to the evidence, it was about using them to carry out assassination attempts. "Russian services urged them not only to attack, but also to commit suicide," which was supposed to prevent the clients from being established later.
One of the detainees, a 15-year-old from the Kirovohrad region, received detailed instructions on the construction of an explosive charge. "The ready-made cargo was supposed to be brought to the high school and detonate during the break," the investigators said. In addition, he was instructed to take a weapon and a knife to "kill the survivors". During the search of his house, an improvised bomb, components for its production and equipment containing correspondence with a Russian "host" were found.
The second case concerns a student from the Odessa region who was just in the process of recruitment. According to the arrangements, he was to receive a shipment of weapons and be sent to carry out an attack in his school.
As the Ukrainian services emphasize, the first confirmed cases of attempts to use students for assassination attempts in educational institutions. At the same time, these are not isolated incidents. Earlier reports, published by BBC News or The Guardian, among others, indicated that Russian structures regularly try to recruit young people for sabotage and intelligence activities, using their susceptibility to manipulation and promises of quick earnings.
Experts point out that the key tool remains closed groups in communicators. This is where the instructions are given, and even - as the findings show - it is possible to remotely launch the prepared loads.
