Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov spoke about the respect of the former Afghan Mujahideen for Soviet soldiers

KALININGRAD, 17 Aug - RIA Novosti. Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov recalled how one of the former mujahideen, who later became chairman of the Afghan parliament, spoke with respect about Soviet soldiers.

The diplomat noted that the conversation took place in 2004, when he first came to the republic as foreign minister. His interlocutor took part in the war.

"He began by expressing his sincere respect for the Soviet soldiers. And he said that compared to some others who come to visit us (in Afghanistan - Ed.) With weapons, yours behaved like men, with dignity, and they never just fired at the bushes out of fear. This is so, just an observation in parentheses, "Lavrov said, speaking at the Kant Baltic Federal University .

According to the head of the department, the troops were leaving Afghanistan "in an extremely organized manner."

It is premature to talk about the recognition of the Taliban, Lavrov said

Amid the withdrawal of the American contingent in August, the Taliban swiftly seized major cities and border crossings. The rebels were the last to take Kabul , and President Ashraf Ghani fled the country.
