Secretary of the Security Council Nikolai Patrushev apologized for the words of his assistant Alexei Pavlov about the Lubavitcher Hasidim as a sect. It is reported by Interfax .

According to Patrushev, Pavlov's views on the Hasidim do not reflect the views of the Russian Federation in general and the Russian Security Council in particular. In addition, he added that "work has been done" with Pavlov.

“The article by Assistant Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation (...) Pavlov, published in the weekly Arguments and Facts, contained erroneous lines about the Lubavitcher Hasidim. I apologize to the readers of the publication, ”Interfax quotes the text of Patrushev’s letter, received by the editors.

Earlier, Chief Rabbi of Russia Berl Lazar called the article of Patrushev's assistant insulting and dangerous. The Russian Jewish Congress (RJC) called on the Investigative Committee and the prosecutor's office to check this article.

Alexey Pavlov's article was published in the 43rd issue of the Arguments and Facts newspaper dated October 26, 2022. In it, Patrushev's aide stated that those in power in Kiev had turned into "militant fanatics" whose views were directly opposed to those of "normal people."

Among examples of "abnormal" views, Pavlov cites Lubavitcher Hasidism, which is practiced by Ukrainian businessmen Igor Kolomoisky and Viktor Pinchuk . Pavlov stated that the main life principle of the Lubavitcher Hasidim allegedly "is the superiority of the supporters of the sect over all nations and peoples."
