Russian President Vladimir Putin awarded the former head of the Russian oil and gas company Lukoil Vagit Alekperov with the Order of Merit for the Fatherland, I degree. The corresponding decree is published on the official portal of legal information.

As noted in the document, Alekperov was awarded for services to the state, a great contribution to the development of the fuel and energy complex and many years of conscientious work.

On April 21, the head of Lukoil, Vagit Alekperov, who had been in charge of the enterprise since its foundation in 1993, announced his departure from the company amid personal sanctions imposed on him by the UK. His assets in the country are frozen, and he is also denied entry.
