Drugs and equipment for their preparation were found in the back office of the Chita synagogue, which houses the city's Jewish community. On March 23, "MK in Chita" was informed by a source in the community, the information was confirmed by a competent source of the portal in law enforcement agencies.
“The local Jewish religious organization is a house open to all citizens who wish to join the historical values, cultural traditions and language of the Jewish people. During the day, language and culture classes are held here, which are attended by Transbaikalians of Jewish origin, especially young people. We were shocked by the facts of storage, use and production of drugs in a holy place for us,” said a representative of the city's Jewish community.
As it became known to "MK in Chita", the local Jewish religious organization "Jewish Community of Chita" is part of the Federation of Jewish Communities of Russia (FEOR). The Federation provides assistance to regional communities in organizing and strengthening their activities and life within the communities. In 2020, FEOR won a presidential grant to conduct anti-drug advocacy.
It should be noted that two representatives of the Federation of Jewish Communities of Russia are expected to arrive in Chita this week. As part of the trip, they plan to check the spending of funds that are allocated to support residents of Transbaikalia with Jewish roots.
The details of the incident are being specified.
At the time of publication of the news, it was not possible to get an official comment from the leadership of the Jewish community of Chita.
