Kremlin wants to invalidate Perestroika's recognition of Lithuania's independence

Yevgeny Fedorov from the United Russia party submitted to the State Duma a draft law on repealing the decision of the USSR State Council of September 6, 1991 on the recognition of the independence of the Republic of Lithuania. The Russian deputy argues that the decision of the USSR State Council to recognize Lithuania as an independent state "is illegal because it was adopted by an unconstitutional body and in violation of the requirements of articles <...> of the USSR Constitution."
The politician pointed out that Lithuania had not held a referendum on seceding from the USSR.
Fedorov emphasizes that the Russian Federation, being the legal successor of the USSR, should annul the 1991 decision.
