Elon Musk said that Israel is the world leader in per capita innovation.
The owner of Tesla and SpaceX said this during a virtual speech at the international Smart Mobility Summit in Tel Aviv.
"I'm a big fan of innovations that come from Israel," Musk said.
"If we talk about innovations per capita, Israel is probably number one in the world by a huge margin," he added.
Musk was supposed to attend the conference in person back in March, but the event was postponed due to the war with Iran.
The Smart Mobility Summit is held by the Ministry of Transport of Israel and is dedicated to the transport technologies of the future, artificial intelligence, autonomous transport and new mobility systems.
Among the participants of the forum were the Minister of Transport Miri Regev, the head of Mobileye Amnon Shashua and representatives of the Israeli high-tech industry.
Musk stressed that Israel "much exceeds its own scale" in terms of technological development and entrepreneurship.
"I take my hat off to Israel for the number of incredible innovations that are born in this country," he said.
Israel has long been considered one of the world's centers of technology startups, especially in the fields of cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, defense technologies, medical development and autonomous transport.
