MOSCOW, Dec 23 - RIA Novosti. The burning in the center of Moscow of one of the symbols of the Hanukkah holiday - the menorah - has become one of the good traditions of the capital, towards which local residents have changed their attitude over the years, said the Chief Rabbi of Russia, Berl Lazar.
According to the Hanukkah tradition, Hanukkah candles are lit on all eight holidays in Jewish homes. In Moscow, on Manezhnaya Square, the Chief Rabbi of Russia, Berl Lazar, lit the first candle of the holiday, which is celebrated this year from 22 to 30 December.
“It has already become a good tradition to light the Chanukiah in the central squares. This is the thirtieth time when we light the menorah in the center of Moscow. us, "said Lazar.
He also thanked Russian President Vladimir Putin "for the fact that today you can light the menorah and be proud of your Jewishness", as well as Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin for his help in organizing the holiday.
