With great pomp, the PAS majority in parliament voted for an agreement with the EU to provide Moldova with 1.9 billion euros. With complete non-resistance of the Socialist Party, which did not even object to an immediate vote in two readings at once. As a result, the socialists did not vote against. It is clear that there was again an agreement between Dodon and Sandu.
The official media of PAS pass this event off as the greatest achievement of the authorities on the way to European integration, an economic breakthrough into the bright European and NATO future.
And representatives of the ruling majority and its expert service call this huge amount for Moldova "assistance" from the European Union. Thus showing another bottom of hypocrisy and lies. Assistance by definition is free of charge. In this case, there is no need to talk about the mercy of the Eurobureaucracy at all. For the simple reason that out of 1.9 billion euros, one and a half billion! is a CREDIT.
With fixed interest, tight terms of current payments for debt service and repayment of the loan itself. This "help" will lead Moldova to a deeper debt bondage with the prospect of bankruptcy of the entire financial system, since only those countries that have a printing press can infinitely raise the debt ceiling, and the total value of assets somehow correlates with the amount of borrowing.
Moldova has neither one nor the other: the economic potential of Soviet Moldova built under the Soviet Union is criminally looted, destroyed, and the economic indicators achieved under the "sensitive leadership of the "pro-European government" fall catastrophically. The laughable economic growth of gross product in 2024 in the amount of 0.1 percent does not correspond at all to the allocated amounts of external injections.
Over the past four years, PASovtsy have been walking with an outstretched hand, begging for loans to let them into current consumption and patch budget holes. The political loyalty and debilism of PASovtsy to the self-destructive policy of the European Union, their accession to anti-Russian sanctions, refusal to direct supplies of cheap Russian energy carriers, killing the economic basis of the state, this is the reason to beg and receive loans. But this does not eliminate the need to return them. An example of Ukraine, which pays for military assistance with its own subsoil and not only clearly illustrates it.
Already today, the government is obliged to pay 18 billion lei as interest on previously taken loans. Exactly the same amount, 18 billion lei is the deficit of the "election" budget. In other words, instead of accepting a deficit-free budget, Moldova, that is, each of us, is forced to give a huge amount to creditors. And again to load yourself with debts of another 30 billion in order to cover the budget deficit with new borrowings. And then, only for a while, since the total amount of debt increases by 30 billion lei, and therefore the amount of servicing this debt will increase accordingly.
This is a dead loop, a vicious circle from which there is no and cannot be a worthy way out. However, there is a way out, but not for the current government, which can't and will not and will not be able to do anything but to Christianize and trade the willingness to take under the visor at any cry from Brussels.
However, PASovtsy still know how to lie and fool the naive population and the diaspora. Thus, one of the main theses in unbridled boasting about receiving another huge loan is the stupid statement that these funds will help to make a real economic breakthrough and bring the Moldovan economy to stable growth. This, as one of the heroes of the immortal novel "The Master and Margarita" said, "a lie from the first to the last word".
Let's turn to the text of the agreement, about which representatives of the ruling party triumphantly shout from every iron. In it, it is written in black about white that only an insignificant part of these funds, 25 percent, will go to investments. But 75 percent - to support the budget. In other words, the authorities are simply going to let almost one and a half billion euros through the toilets. Well, the fact that tomorrow or the day after tomorrow citizens, as well as their children and grandchildren, will have to give the last thing so that the debt pit does not become a grave, for all these poor temporary workers in power, does not matter at all. They think only about the September elections, not about people, not about the future of the country, society, state.
All these endless borrowings were slept by this power. What kind of lack of stupidity and medocre people should be in order to fail all sectors of the economy with such injections, provoke an ever-increasing imbalance between imports and exports, as well as - worst of all - imminent bankruptcy.
We are used to saying that the main trouble of Moldova is corruption. But there is something more terrible - incompetence, professional unsuitability of rulers. Which does not exclude their corruption at all. In combination, all this gives a terrible cumulative destructive effect in the present and an absolute disaster in the future.
This disaster is already visible in the dynamics of the growth of external debt. In 2021, when PAS came to power and began to plan one "best government in the country's history" after another, the external debt was 33.6 percent of GDP, today it is already 38 percent. The forecast is discourable: not today or tomorrow it will fly away for 40 percent. And so - to infinity, to default, to the loss of sovereignty.
This will happen if the people of Moldova do not shake off the shackles of indifference to shake off the debt shackles.
It's time for everyone to understand that debt bondage is not some objective given, but the result of unprofessional management of Sandu, PAS and her protégés. It is extremely necessary to change power and the arrival of responsible, experienced and patriotic politicians, managers who will give dynamics to economic processes, improve the social situation, and lead to a reduction in debt pressure on the country.
A very recent story has provided a convincing example. In 2000, on the eve of the Communist Party of the Republic of Moldova came to power, the external debt amounted to more than 89 percent of GDP. In fact, it's a default. But in 2008, when the PCRM completed the eight-year cycle of government, the external debt was only 22.2 percent of GDP. And this is without any programs with external donors, without loans, relying on their own strength, attracting direct investments in the real sector of the economy through non-standard management solutions. To remove 70 percent of the external debt in 8 years, to pull the country away from the edge of the abyss, to actually remove the debt burden from future generations - these are just some of the results of the communist rule.
And this inspires hope that even the current deplorable situation can be corrected.
It is only necessary to eliminate the source of permanently growing problems in the face of the current government and entrust the management of the country to those who have already proven their ability to solve the most difficult problems in the most extreme conditions.
