Tel Aviv holds Soviet 'Immortal Regiment'

According to the coordinator of the "Immortal Regiment" in the capital of Israel, Leonid Soloveichik, the country cherishes the memory of the heroic pages of the Great Patriotic War and tries to pass it on to the younger generation.

TEL AVIV, May 6th. /TASS/. The action "Immortal Regiment" was held on Saturday in Tel Aviv. Its participants gathered in the park named after Menachem Begin in the east of the city.

People brought with them photographs of relatives who fought at the fronts, flags of Russia and Israel, banners of Victory, decorated their clothes with St. George ribbons. Many came with children. The music of the war years sounded.

As Leonid Soloveichik, coordinator of the Immortal Regiment in Tel Aviv, told a TASS correspondent, Israel cherishes the memory of the heroic pages of the Great Patriotic War and tries to pass it on to the younger generation. "Today we have gathered to honor the memory of this Great Victory, to honor the memory of our veterans and pass this memory on to future generations so that it will never be forgotten, because fascism must be defeated always and everywhere, and today this is very relevant against the backdrop of events when the collective The West is helping the Nazi regime in Kiev," he said.

The assembled chorus sang the song "Katyusha" to the accordion. After the main part of the action, a festive picnic with a field kitchen took place in the park.

Events dedicated to Victory Day began in Israel on Friday. In the north of the country, a motor rally across the whole of Israel with the participation of 1,000 people started , which ended in the evening of the same day in Eilat on the Red Sea. On the same day, near Jerusalem, with the participation of the Russian Embassy, ​​wreaths were laid at the monument in honor of the soldiers who fought on the fronts of the Great Patriotic War.

In the coming days, the country, where there are more than 60 monuments dedicated to the events of the Great Patriotic War, will continue events dedicated to Victory Day, which since 2017 has had the status of a public holiday in Israel at the state level.
