The head of the Committee on Budget and Taxes Andrei Makarov, during the consideration of amendments to the second reading of the federal budget bill for 2026-28, said that Cheburashka was a Jew.
He made this conclusion based on the fact that the only country that supplied oranges to the USSR was Israel. "Cheburashka is a Jew," the deputy said, recalling that one of the favorite cartoon heroes of Russians came in a box with oranges.
Other people's deputies tried to challenge this version: according to them, Morocco and Spain also supplied oranges to the Soviet Union. However, Makarov categorically rejected these assumptions. "Cheburashka is not a Spaniard," he cut off, offering his colleagues to double-check his words about the supply of oranges to the USSR exclusively from Israel.
The dispute about Cheburashka's nationality arose during the consideration of the amendment to the budget, which provides for the allocation of funds for the "Native Toy" contest, during which the deputies expect to find a worthy domestic replacement for Labub and other toy blockbusters.
