The cross-border railway bridge Nizhneleninskoye (Jewish Autonomous Region) - Tongjiang (PRC) across the Amur River, which was built in the spring of 2022, will soon begin to provide up to 10% of all freight traffic between Russia and China, TASS reports . It is noted that the maximum capacity of the bridge crossing is up to 20 million tons of cargo per year.
According to the head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF), Kirill Dmitriev, over the past 12 months, monthly cargo traffic has increased fivefold. “Here, of course, an important example is the bridge over the Amur River - this is the first railway bridge between Russia and China. And now we are announcing that monthly freight traffic has increased fivefold over the past year, and the bridge will actually in the near future supply up to 10% of all freight traffic between Russia and China,” he said.
The implementation of the bridge construction project took place within the framework of an agreement concluded between the governments of the two countries back in 2008. The facility was financed 25% by the Far East and Baikal Region Development Fund, and 75% by the Russian Direct Investment Fund through the Russian-Chinese Fund.
