Russian professor to face trial for Holocaust denial
The St. Petersburg City Court has registered a criminal case against former RANEPA teacher Vladimir Matveev, who denied the Holocaust in his lectures. This was reported by the joint press service of the courts of St. Petersburg.
The crime committed by Matveev falls under Part 1 of Article 354.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation - “rehabilitation of Nazism”. The case has been scheduled for a preliminary hearing.
Matveev faces up to three years in prison, but a fine or forced labor is possible.
Recall that in the winter of 2021, Matveev told the audience at a pedagogical webinar that the Holocaust is a myth, its victims are criminals, and Auschwitz ovens were used for disinfection.
Chief Rabbi of St. Petersburg M.-M. Pevzner filed an application with the prosecutor's office.
In March 2021, the prosecutor's office of the Leningrad region considered Matveev's statements to be the rehabilitation of Nazism.
The audit materials were transferred to the UK.
The professor was fired from his jobs. His claim for reinstatement was dismissed .
