Russian Duma deputy calls for return of Stalinist repressions

April 25, 2023

Lieutenant-General Andrei Gurulev, a member of the State Duma Defense Committee, spoke about his grandfather, who spent nine years in camps starting in 1946, and called for a return to Stalinist repressions. His comment was made on the air of the program “Full contact with Vladimir Solovyov”.

“My grandfather was later rehabilitated. (...) We understand that it was necessary at that time in the state to do. Yes, these were mistakes, but there was discipline,” the deputy noted.

According to Gurulev, the concept of “enemy of the people” should also be restored in Russia now.

At the end of March, the Kremlin considered it justified that Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of Russia Dmitry Medvedev read out a telegram from Joseph Stalin to the directors of Russian factories of the military-industrial complex.

Prior to this, Medvedev, as part of a meeting of the Military-Industrial Commission, read the telegram of the Soviet leader to the directors of factories of the military-industrial complex. The deputy chairman of the Security Council then stressed that Stalin's letter shows how the work of the defense industry was assessed during the Great Patriotic War.

In 1941, Stalin sent this telegram from Moscow to Sverdlovsk to the director of Uralmashzavod, Boris Muzrukov. It spoke about the need to comply with the deadlines and volumes of orders for the supply of hulls for heavy tanks of the KV series.

“In a few days, if you find yourself violating your duty to the Motherland, I will begin to smash you as criminals who neglect the honor and interests of their Motherland. We cannot tolerate our troops suffering at the front from a lack of tanks, while you in the far rear cool off and do nothing, ”the telegram cited by Medvedev says.
