Putin gifted leader of Russian Communist party Zyuganov with copy of Marx's Communist Manifesto on his birthday

June 26, 2014

Russian President Vladimir Putin discussed with the head of the Communist Party faction Gennady Zyuganov the results of the work of the lower house of parliament in the spring session and congratulated the party leader on his anniversary.

"At the end of the spring session, I would like to talk with you about what has been done, about the tasks that we face, starting from September - from the new session," Putin said, ITAR-TASS reports .

The president began his conversation with the communist leader by wishing him a happy birthday. Zyuganov turns 70 today. “I want to congratulate you on your anniversary, happy birthday, and present such a wonderful figurine of our beloved hero - Vasily Ivanovich Chapaev to you,” he said, handing the gift to the hero of the day.

"A magnificent image," Zyuganov thanked. “He inspires us to new feats,” said the leader of the Communist Party, saying that he was in the Chapaev Museum in his homeland in Chuvashia and even sat in the cart of a civil war hero.

The leader of the Communist Party recalled that earlier (on his 65th birthday - approx. VIEW) Putin presented him with the "Manifesto of the Communist Party" by Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels. “Last time you presented the Manifesto, today - Chapaev; this is a very serious hint,” he suggested with a smile.

“These are the times, you know, you need to somehow focus on this direction,” Putin responded.

"For me, the strengthening of the patriotic line, which has been carried out lately, is very important," Zyuganov stressed. “And we will do everything so that the best traditions that have developed in our country in protecting interests are continued,” he assured the president.

Earlier this week, the president also held a meeting on the work of the State Duma with LDPR leader Vladimir Zhirinovsky.
