Putin appoints another Jewish governor of Russia region, this time Khinstein in Kursk

Russian President Vladimir Putin appointed Alexander Khinshtein, head of the State Duma Committee on Information Policy, as acting governor of the Kursk region. The decree on the appointment of Khinstein was published on Thursday, December 5, on the Kremlin's website. Former governor Alexei Smirnov resigned early.

At the meeting with Khinstein, the president noted that the politician worked as an adviser to the director of Rosgvardia, Commander-in-Chief of the National Guard of the Russian Federation. "And in this regard, I would like to offer you the position of acting governor of the Kursk region, bearing in mind that crisis management is now in demand there, of course, in the situation in which the Kursk region is now," the president said.

"And as the territory is liberated from the enemy there, of course, a lot will have to be done to restore housing and communal services, to restore the economy of this territory as a whole, but also the one that is now being liberated by our troops," Vladimir Putin added. The main task of Hinstein in his new post was determined by the president to organize the work "to help people who, of course, need this help both in the current regime and in the near future".

Offering the post of acting governor of the Kursk region, the president noted that Khinstein has "very good developments, relations in the executive authorities", including thanks to his work in law enforcement agencies, and asked to use this to achieve the set goals.

Hinstein, in turn, assured the president that he would do "everything to justify this trust". "I hope I will be able to complete the tasks set. I understand how difficult the situation in the Kursk region is today, but the implementation of these tasks is all the more important," he said.

Alexander Khinshtein was a deputy of the State Duma from the IV to the VIII convocations. In 2016, he worked as an adviser to the director of Rosgvardia. In 2020, he headed the State Duma Committee on Information Policy, Information Technologies and Communications.
