MOSCOW, 24 May. /TASS/. A photo exhibition dedicated to the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Russia and Israel opened on Wednesday in front of the TASS building in Moscow. The exposition, which included photographs by TASS photojournalists, was opened by Israeli Ambassador to the Russian Federation Alexander Ben Zvi, Special Representative of the President of Russia for the Middle East and Africa, Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov, TASS Director General Sergei Mikhailov and TASS First Deputy Director General Mikhail Gusman.
The Director General of TASS stressed that the relationship between Russia and Israel has always been in the center of the agency's attention. "The representative office of the agency has been operating in Tel Aviv for over 30 years (the first message from the TASS representative office in Israel was transmitted on July 26, 1991), and information about the life of Israel is constantly published on our tapes. The TASS photo bank contains many historical and contemporary photographs about the cooperation between the two countries in various fields, some of which are presented today at our exhibition,” Mikhailov told the guests.
On archival photographs, visitors to the exhibition can see moments of the meeting of cosmonaut Andrian Nikolaev with actors and directors of Israel at the IV Moscow International Film Festival, a divine service on the occasion of the Jewish holiday of Pesach (Easter) in the synagogue and the national trade and industrial exhibition "Israel-94" in Moscow.
In addition, the exhibition presents footage of the signing of a customs agreement between the countries by the Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Viktor Chernomyrdin and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, the meeting of Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Rus' with Israeli President Reuven Rivlin in 2016, the participation of Chief Rabbi of Russia Berl Lazar in the handover ceremony wooden synagogue built in 1872 for the Jewish community of Tomsk.
The photographs show the moment where Russian President Vladimir Putin and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu take part in the Immortal Regiment commemoration rally on Red Square in 2018 and open the Candle of Memory monument to residents and defenders of besieged Leningrad in Saker Park in Jerusalem in 2020.
Diplomatic relations between the USSR and Israel were established in May 1948. In June 1967, diplomatic relations were severed. In 1987, relations were resumed through the consular line, and on October 18, 1991, they were restored in full.
