Iranian Jewish parliamentarian accused Israel of deliberately destroying the synagogue in Tehran

10.04.2026

The Israeli military struck the main synagogue of Tehran to punish the local Jewish community for supporting the Iranian authorities. This is reported by RT with reference to the representative of the Jewish community in the Iranian parliament of Homayun Sameyu Najafabadi.

According to him, as a result of the Israeli attacks, all the property of the Tehran synagogue and the shrines in it were completely destroyed, and the building itself was seriously damaged, RT notes.

The head of the Jewish community of Iran, Younes Hamami Lalezar, told RT that Israel damaged the holy books in the synagogue, including handwritten Torah scrolls, with its strikes. According to him, this caused "indignation and grief of fellow believers".

Lalezar accused the "American and Zionist regimes" of "manipulating the Umami" in order to hide "truth and reality" - for example, cruelty and disrespect for the Holy Scriptures.

About 8,500 Jews live in Iran, mainly in Tehran, Isfahan and Shiraz. Before the Islamic Revolution of 1979, about 100,000 Jews lived in the country. After that, most of them left the country, settling in Israel and the United States.

According to human rights organizations, as a precaution to protect their members, prominent figures of the Jewish community of Iran periodically make anti-Israeli statements that demonstrate loyalty to the Ayatollah regime.
