Brin's representatives did not comment on the transfer of shares. It is assumed that the securities could have been sent to charity or to trust funds, which corresponds to the practice of a billionaire. In 2023, he presented shares worth $600 million, in May and November 2024 - for another $100 million.
The current transfer of shares took place against the background of positive news for Alphabet - on Wednesday, May 21, the day of publication of information about the donation, the value of the company's shares increased by 5.6%.
