Donald Trump and the book “Zohar” is a combination that would have been hard to imagine a few years ago. But now a man who knows Trump not from newspapers talks about it.
Marla Maples, the former wife of the President of the United States, said that Trump carries an Aramaic copy of the book “Zohar”—one of the main texts of the Jewish mystical tradition.
This detail is especially interesting against the background of Trump’s long-standing connection with the Jewish people.
His daughter Ivanka accepted Judaism before marrying Jared Kushner. Their children are brought up in the Jewish tradition. Trump himself has repeatedly emphasized his support for Israel and his special attitude to the Jewish people.
And now there is another detail – “Zohar”, a book that reveals the deep secrets of the Torah, the soul and the spiritual structure of the world.
This, of course, does not mean that Trump has become a Kabbalist or that he studies “Zohar”. But if Maples’ statement is true, this detail itself is very unusual.
A man whom the whole world is used to seeing primarily as a businessman and politician turns out to be connected with the Jewish tradition not only through his daughter and his own family, but perhaps also through a book that occupies a special place in the history of Jewish spirituality.
Sometimes a big story manifests itself in one small detail. “Zohar” at the heart – perhaps just such a detail.
