The head of Crimea, Sergei Aksyonov, called the annexation of the peninsula a symbol of the new world order. He stated this in his Telegram .
“The reunification of Crimea with Russia is a symbol of the return of Russian lands, a symbol of the birth of a new world order based on justice and mutual respect. Happy holiday, friends! Aksenov wrote.
On March 14, Sergei Aksyonov admitted that Kiev could arrange provocations on the territory of Crimea on the anniversary of the peninsula's entry into Russia. According to him, the Ukrainian authorities will try to organize "some kind of disgusting thing by March 18."
Crimea became part of Russia in March 2014 following a referendum held on the territory of the peninsula. Kyiv, the countries of the European Union and the United States refused to recognize the results of the vote and announced the annexation of the peninsula. The Russian side denies these accusations and insists that the accession procedure complied with international law.
