- Gennady Andreevich, a few hours ago Vladimir Putin's state visit to China began. You and the president talked about this topic... And how would you appreciate the fact that the first trip of our leader after the inauguration is to this country?
- The current visit of the head of our state to China is of exceptional importance. When Putin and I summed up the results of last year at the beginning of 2024 and discussed everything related to the current situation - in our country and in the world - I openly suggested that one of his first visits should, of course, be to China. And the president did not just respond, he himself planned this trip.
I pay attention to the following pattern. In March 2023, Xi Jinping arrived in Moscow on a state visit - with the first (and on the 10th day) after - re-election as leader of the People's Republic of China. So, Putin also begins his state visit on the 10th day after the president's inauguration - it is China. This also emphasizes the mutual respect and great interest between our great countries.
- Can the reaction in the world to this event already be predicted?
- I think today the whole planet will watch and listen to what Comrade Xi Jinping and President Putin will say. Because both the political climate in the world and further peaceful development on the planet depend on their position today.
- It's interesting - together with the president, both the recent Defense Minister Shoigu and the current one - Belousov went to China...
- In addition to many other issues, those related to military-strategic partnership will be considered there. By the way, it is of exceptional importance for the whole world. Because we are helping China create a missile warning system. Without it, there can be no complete security. A number of agreements will also be of a long-term nature, will strengthen our ties within the framework of the SCO and BRICS. This will give us the opportunity to cooperate on the largest projects. And they are already marked. Xi Jinping offered to work in the direction of "One Belt, One Road" - an extremely interesting idea. Together we will explore the Northern Way, expand the BAM...
That is why close cooperation, strengthening ties between Russia and China today play an extremely stabilizing role in the world. And I am also sure that the leaders of the two countries will also discuss Chinese initiatives to resolve the situation in Ukraine. Because Americans, Europeans offer war, and we offer peace, but with maximum regard to security issues in our vastness and on the planet as a whole.

- Yes, this is Melnikov, the first Deputy Chairman of the State Duma. By the way, he is also the head of the Russian-Chinese Friendship Society. Melnikov yesterday participated in the opening of the monument "Dialogue between Maxim Gorky and Lu Xin" - it was installed in the Upper Garden of the Russian Embassy in China. These are the greatest writers of the twentieth century.
- And you, as far as I know, are you personally familiar with the leader of China?
- We met Comrade Xi Jinping when he was still the mayor of Shanghai, the largest city on the planet. (There are almost 25 million people in it now.) And then, during the first meetings, we discussed the directions of China's development. It was Xi Jinping who planned the development of the world-famous Pudong Economic Zone, a large suburb of Shanghai, where all the companies in the world worked.
By the way, I spoke in front of these firms. There was a curious discussion. And then, when the current leader of China was the second head of state, we agreed with him on the preparation of a memorandum of joint actions and the work of our parties.
- And when Comrade Xi became the leader of China, did you meet him?
- Yes, I flew to Beijing at his invitation, and we discussed all the most pressing problems. By the way, he hosted us when we flew with President Vladimir Putin to the World Exhibition, which was held in Shanghai.
- Is it true that your works are published in China?
- Indeed, they have translated many of my works into Chinese, books are shown at exhibitions...
