On Wednesday, December 22, Chief Rabbi of Russia Berl Lazar paid a visit to Ankara and met with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. The meeting took place within the framework of the summit of the Alliance of Rabbis of Muslim States.

During the summit, Berl Lazar took part in the conference “Muslim-Jewish relations as a result of Abraham's legacy”, held a working meeting with a representative of the Muslim clergy, visited the Museum of Turkish Jewery and acted as one of the leading speakers at the gala dinner.

The meeting with the President of Turkey was also attended by Chief Sephardic Rabbi of Turkey Yitzhak Haleva and ARIS Chairman Mendy Khitrik. In memory of this memorable event, Erdogan was presented with a silver Hanukkah - a special candlestick with nine branches, which is the oldest symbol of Judaism.

The Alliance of Rabbis of Muslim States is a non-governmental organization founded in 2019. Its activities are aimed at the development of Jewish life in regions with a predominantly Muslim population. At the moment, the organization includes more than 40 rabbis from different countries. The work of the alliance was approved by the chief Sephardic rabbi of Israel, Yitzhak Yosef.
