Chief Rabbi of Russia Berl Lazar took part in an event dedicated to the International Day of Human Fraternity. It took place on Tuesday, January 31 at The Carlton Moscow Hotel.

The event was organized by the Embassy of the United Arab Emirates in Russia. It was attended by statesmen and religious figures, diplomats from the countries of the Arab-Muslim world and representatives of public organizations.

The event was opened by the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United Arab Emirates to the Russian Federation, Mr. Muhammad Ahmed Al Jaber. In his welcoming speech, he called the United Arab Emirates the capital of religious tolerance, where representatives of two hundred nationalities and different faiths live in peace and harmony. Mr. Al Jaber assured that the UAE leadership will continue to make efforts to spread the principles of tolerance and peaceful coexistence, mutual respect and understanding.

The ambassador was supported by Chief Rabbi of Russia Berel Lazar. According to him, the United Arab Emirates proved that it is possible to find a common language between different nationalities, despite the difference in views and tasks:

“What was recently signed with Israel (Israeli-Emirates Peace Treaty) is not just papers, it is a heroic feat!

After the signing, our community in Russia decided to show all our young Jews how these two peoples live together. We organized the Yahad trip, which resulted in about a thousand young Jews traveling to Dubai and Abu Dhabi.

And it was very interesting to see the joy of the people who met our Jews. They were happy that we can now openly be friends.   The document that was signed in 2019 is also proof that religion actually unites people. Our main task in this world is to find a common language despite the fact that we are different.”

At the end of his speech, Berl Lazar thanked the UAE Ambassador and the Embassy staff for organizing and hosting the event.

The International Day of Human Fraternity was established by the UN General Assembly in 2020 and was first celebrated in Russia at the initiative of the diplomatic mission of the United Arab Emirates.
