Putin says LGBT 'are part of society' and that 'there must be equality'

Putin: LGBT representatives can also win competitions

Nov. 17, 2023

LGBT people are part of society, said Russian President
Vladimir Putin . The words of the head of state are quoted by TASS.

The President said that Russia is aware of the current practice in the West, according to which in order to win creative competitions one must “tell, write or show the life of sexual minorities, transgender people and transformers.” This is also how people live, Putin said.

“It’s bad, if they only win all sorts of competitions, this is of no use,” the head of state noted. In the field of culture, as in other spheres, there must be equality, he concluded.

Previously, the Ministry of Justice demanded that the LGBT movement be recognized as extremist. The ministry filed an administrative lawsuit in court, in which it asked to ban LGBT activities in Russia. The basis for the claim was the results of an inspection, during which signs of extremism and incitement of social and religious hatred were identified, the Ministry of Justice explained.
