The Pope presented Putin with the Guardian Angel of Peace medal
Pope Francis, at a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, presented him with the Guardian Angel of Peace medal. Presidential Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov reported this to Interfax.
As the head of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov, previously wrote in his Telegram, the medal is awarded once every hundred years. According to him, over the past 462 years, Putin became the fifth owner of it.
Putin’s meeting with the Pope took place on July 4 in the Vatican in the library of the Apostolic Palace; it lasted about an hour. The parties discussed the situation in Ukraine and Syria, interaction between Russia and the European Union, as well as the topic of protecting the Christian population in the Middle East.
Putin presented Francis with an icon depicting the apostles Peter and Paul and a disc with the film “Sin” directed by Andrei Konchalovsky. In response, the pontiff presented the Russian president with a message for World Peace Day 2019 and an engraving of St. Peter's Square by Giuseppe Vasi from 1774.
