“Mandatory” for gentiles to become Noahides, according to Chabad
Quote from Timothy Fitzpatrick on February 5, 2025, 19:49The soul of Noahid in the light of Hasidism
Based on this, we can affirmatively say that Noahid is a mediator between idolaters and Jews. It can play a positive role in contact between them.
ROSTISLAV P. 27.01.2025 3 365 4 min. When we talk about Noahidism, we mean the mandatory fulfillment by non-Jews of the 7 commandments of Noah and the laws resulting from them. Axiomatically, it is believed that a non-Jew is only called a "righteous one of the nations" if he has undertaken to observe the 7 commandments by passing them to our teacher Mosha on Mount Sinai by the Almighty himself. If a non-Jew fulfills the commandments from the point of view of their reasonableness and logic, then he is not a "righteous among the peoples of the world", but a "sage of the peoples of the world". The "Righteous Among the Nations" in the legislative status stands above any idolater and is awarded the world to come. Everything is more than clear, except for one thing: why are there so few noahids now? To answer this question, it is necessary to justify Noahidism in a Kabbalistic way.
The holy sages, starting with the righteous Baal-Shem-Tov, made the provisions of Kabbalah accessible to everyone, forming Hasidism - the pinnacle of the level of understanding of the mysteries of the Torah. The great heads of HABAD penetrated into the very depths of Hasidism and highlighted the knowledge we need in their works. The holy wisdom of the Torah also touched non-Jews.
Here is what the Rebbe writes about the spiritual source of the soul of the righteous of the peoples of the world ("Igrot Kodesh" volume 9, p. 53):
The souls of the righteous of the peoples of the world are taken from a "neutral" shell, as explained in several places in Hasidism, including those printed in "Likutei biurim" to the "Collection of Admiration" 47d. And see also the book "Zohar" II 95b and further.
In another letter, the Rebbe adds ("Igrot Kodesh" volume 15, p. 182):
Refer to this collection of comments by the great rabbi and Hasid Rabbi Hillel of Paris on page 47g and to RAMBAM in the "Laws on Kings" at the end of chapter 8, which states that a non-Jew who fulfills the seven commandments is considered a righteous among the peoples of the world.
Based on what is written, we can say that a person is already born with a similar soul. Such souls tend to perceive holiness and connect with the Almighty through the Jewish people: they have a great interest in Jews and their teachings. But there have always been and remain very few such people. That is, we can once again make a bold assumption that noahids are already born.
History knows a number of precedents of the feeling of attraction to Jews by non-Jews. By the way, the religious factor has not always played a decisive role. Many philosophers of different religions felt special sympathy for the Jews, seeing them as a holy people and protecting them from attacks. Many people, risking their lives, saved Jews from death and were awarded the status of "righteous peoples of the world" for such actions. But there were, of course, cases of religious insprension.
Thus, history knows groups of "god-fearing" in Rome (they studied from rabbis, but then switched to spreading Christianity). The communities of students of Jewish "sabbathniks" in the Russian Empire are known. They also studied with rabbis, were persecuted by churchmen and authorities, but have survived to this day, although many of them have passed the guiur. There is a sass about the Hanifis-monotheist in pre-Islamic Arabia, who soon converted to the emergence of Islam. The story with Khazaria is not entirely clear, whose inhabitants either did guiyur in volume or studied from Jews without a full conversion to Judaism.
Sometimes the term noahid is used in the documents of the Masonic movement. Anderson's "Constitution" of the 1738 edition says that "Mason is obliged by his position to observe the moral law as a true Noahid", since according to her version he must fulfill "the three great points of Noah" - the prohibition of blood consumption, the prohibition of murder and the recognition of civil power. As we can see, the Masonic version is shortened, and one of the items (about blood) contradicts the law.
Unfortunately, all these movements did not have specific and formulated knowledge of the 7 commandments for Bnei Noah and were not pure Noahids. But their souls, apparently, strove for this and had a special source of origin - a neutral shell of holiness.
I would also like to briefly reflect on the freedom to choose noahid. Rebbe King Moshiach writes ("Igrot Kodesh" volume 15, p. 414):
Indeed, you can use everything that belongs to a neutral shell, an intermediary between evil and the area of holiness to develop the area of holiness...
Based on this, we can affirmatively say that Noahid is a mediator between idolaters and Jews. It can play a positive role in contact between them. Whether to consider this a privilege or not is a question for everyone individually, but there is no doubt that such a provision imposes additional challenges.
According to Rabbi Gilel of Paris, who is referred to by the Rebbe ("Igrot Kodesh" volume 17, p. 324), "the souls of idolaters, whose kindness and good deeds are not intended to fulfill the will of God or to feel pity for their neighbor, because they are cruel and driven only by their pride, come from three completely impure forces of evil. On the other hand, the righteous of nations come from a neutral shell, which, as is known, can be elevated."
We focus on the word "exaltation" and derive a logical continuation: in addition to elevation, there may also be a fall to the level of an idolater. It depends on the noahid, on his freedom of choice. Exaltation can also be different: a person can both remain righteous among the peoples of the world and wish to join the people of Israel, pass the guiyur and receive an additional divine soul that belongs to the area of holiness.
It is also worth canceling that according to the holy book "Tania", the source of the vital soul of a Jew is also a neutral shell, which emphasizes a certain spiritual connection.
Thus, an attempt was made to analyze the statute of Noahid from the point of view of Hasidism. Let the Creator guide people to the right path and give everyone the opportunity to know their holy Torah.
