Jewish co-author of Russian constitution dies at 92

On Sunday, June 25, one of the founders of the Yabloko party, co-author of the Russian Constitution, Viktor Sheinis, died in St. Petersburg . He was 92 years old. The causes of death were not specified.
Victor Sheinis was born in 1931 in Kyiv. He graduated from the Faculty of History of the Leningrad State University, worked as a history teacher in several Leningrad schools.
In the 60s he worked at the Kirov Plant, then returned to a scientific career and in 1977 became a chief researcher at the Institute of World Economy and International Relations of the USSR Academy of Sciences.
In 1988 he became a member of the Moscow Tribune club. Two years later he was elected people's deputy of the RSFSR. From 1991 to 1993 he was a member of the Council of the Republic of the Supreme Council of Russia, was the Deputy Executive Secretary of the Constitutional Commission of the Supreme Council of Russia, where he participated in the drafting of the Russian Constitution.
In December 1993, he became a State Duma deputy on the federal list of the Yavlinsky-Boldyrev-Lukin Block association, of which he was one of the founders. He completed his parliamentary career in 1999.
