Israel is negotiating with China on the return of Chinese construction workers to the country. The Department of Population Registration and Immigration of the Ministry of Internal Affairs is trying to agree with the Association of Construction Contractors of the Celestial Empire on the arrival of workers under a bilateral contract. At this stage, we are talking about 3000 builders. This is reported by The Marker newspaper.
On the eve of the war, 15,000 Chinese construction workers worked in Israel. Most of them left when Beijing called on their compatriots to leave Israel. There are only 3,000 people left.
The shortage of construction workers was particularly felt due to the ban on the entry of Palestinian workers, 80,000 of whom were employed on construction sites. It is known that Shabak and the army advocated the return of Palestinian workers, but the political leadership never risked doing so, as the municipalities were categorically against it for security reasons. The General Security Service believes that the ban on work in Israel has worsened the economic situation of Palestinian families, which creates additional tension in the territories.
During the 16 months of the war, only 15,000 builders, mainly from India, were imported from abroad. And of those who came, a significant part turned out to be professionally unprepared. In September last year, the government allowed builders and industrialists to import foreign workers privately - by agreement with private intermediaries, and not within the framework of interstate treaties. As a result, a huge number of "slackers" came to the construction sites.
According to the publication, due to the shortage of labor, the salary of builders jumped to 50 thousand shekels. Many projects have been canned.
