BEIJING, July 4th. /TASS/. The Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) on Tuesday officially announced Iran's entry into the ranks of the member countries of the association, the decision was made at the 23rd summit of the organization chaired by India. The virtual meeting is broadcast by the SCO Secretariat.
Iran became the ninth member of the interstate association. In September 2022, at the SCO summit in Samarkand, a memorandum of commitment was signed for Iran to join the organization.
The SCO was founded on June 15, 2001 in Shanghai. At first, the organization included six countries - Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, China, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, in 2017 India and Pakistan joined them.
