Holocaust Remembrance Week Begins in Russia

January 15, 2025

From January 15 to January 31, a series of events will be held across Russia in honor of the memory of the victims of the Holocaust. They are timed to coincide with the 80th anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz concentration camp by the Red Army, as well as with the International Holocaust Remembrance Day celebrated on January 27.

Lessons dedicated to the tragedy of the Holocaust will be held in regional schools. In Moscow, the Pushkin Museum will host three concerts as part of the Memento! musical program, the Jewish Shalom Theater will host a memorial evening, “Keeper of Memory,” and a performance of the play “The Red Book,” and the Moscow Museum of Modern Art will open an exhibition, “Saviors. Paths of Salvation,” dedicated to the Russian and Georgian Righteous Among the Nations, who risked their lives to save Jews during the Holocaust.

On January 27, an event in memory of the victims of the Holocaust will be held throughout Russia. You can join the event by posting a photo of a lit candle on a windowsill with the hashtag #MemoryWeek on social networks.
