Kanye West's Twitter Account Has Been Blocked Again After Rapper Praised Hitler
02 December 2022
Twitter has blocked rapper Kanye West's account on the social network of the same name after he posted a drawing of a swastika combined with the Jewish symbol, the Star of David. Earlier, he had praised Nazi Germany's Fuhrer Adolf Hitler several times on air.
The blocking of West's account was announced by Twitter owner Elon Musk, who wrote that the account was blocked for "hate speech."
This is a rare case of a famous person's Twitter account being blocked after Musk acquired the company. The businessman called himself "a supporter of absolute freedom of speech", after his purchase of Twitter, many accounts were unblocked there, including the account of former US President Donald Trump and Kanye West himself - this happened on October 29. A month later, however, Musk had to ban the rapper on almost the same grounds as the previous Twitter management.
The account was blocked after West appeared on the show of far-right commentator and conspiracy theorist Alex Jones. In it, he admitted to sympathizing with Hitler and called himself a "Nazi" several times. He noted that he was "not against anything Jewish" and called the first black US president, Barack Obama, "another Jewish president," claiming that he, like Hitler, allegedly killed people. When another participant in the show, publicist Nick Fuentes, said that he was "very pro-Putin and pro-Russian," Kanye West replied, "Me too."
In late October, German sportswear and footwear company Adidas ended its partnership with Kanye West over the rapper's comments on social media. In a statement , Adidas said the company "does not tolerate anti-Semitism or any other hate speech." This came shortly after West was first banned from Twitter for posting an anti-Semitic tweet.
