20.01.2025 Mogilev, Leninskaya St., Jewish Center. In the historical center of Mogilev, on Leninskaya Street, the Jewish Educational Center will open on February 4.
This is reported by the Mogilev Jewish community "Chabad".
The building was built for more than one year (the customer of the construction is the local charitable cultural and educational foundation "OR Avner") - and finally both external and internal works are completed.
The Jewish community does not give official comments on what exactly will be in this center. However, in an informal conversation, the Mogilev Jews said that the Chabad synagogue, spaces for seminars, holidays and community meetings; a Jewish garden and a school would be located here.
For reference: at the beginning of the XIX century, Jews made up about 50 percent of the population of Mogilev (houses on Leninskaya still keep the memory of this). During the occupation of the regional center during the Great Patriotic War, according to various information, from 10 to 20 thousand Jews were exterminated. Plus the wave of emigration in the second half of the XX century... Therefore, today our city is called "Jewish", as it was before, well, the language does not turn around.
