Stephen Bronfman grew up watching “The Nature of Things” and has been focused on environmental issues since his teens. Over the years, he developed a decades-long friendship with David Suzuki and has been a tremendous asset in helping the foundation grow to what it is today. As a board member and friend over the last 27 years, he has supported many successful environmental initiatives, from climate policy advocacy, to fisheries reform, to building community health, and many more.

He recently made a generous special gift in honour of the 95th birthday of his aunt, architect and philanthropist Phyllis Lambert, which enabled the creation of Canada’s first virtual climate lab. With projects targeted initially for Quebec audiences, the lab will connect and nurture creative communities to help heal and renew human habitats, protect and replenish the biosphere and advocate for climate justice for all.

As a prominent figure in the environmental sector, he believes in working for a safe and livable planet for his children and grandchildren, and for future generations.

Stephen carries on his family’s long philanthropic tradition with his own foundation, the Claudine and Stephen Bronfman Family Foundation. As a prominent figure in the environmental sector, he believes in working for a safe and livable planet for his children and grandchildren, and for future generations.
