“Our people suffered greatly from Nazism. 40 percent of the Jews killed by the Nazis were residents of the Soviet Union. Therefore, the Holocaust is our common tragedy, ”he said.

In response to the words of an Israeli colleague that it is not known where anti-Semitism ends, Putin said that it is known. “It ends with Auschwitz,” he said. In this regard, the Russian President urged not to allow anything like this in the future and to resist any manifestations of xenophobia.

The Russian leader’s visit to Israel is timed to coincide with the celebration of the 75th anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz concentration camp by the Red Army and the Day of Remembrance for the Victims of the Holocaust.

Vladimir Putin also met with the mother of Naama Issachar, who was convicted in Russia for smuggling hashish. Following the meeting, Putin said that “everything will be fine.” Earlier, the Israeli side asked him to pardon a 25-year-old Israeli woman.
