Kompromat (Russian: компромат; IPA: [kəmprɐˈmat] (listen), short for компрометирующий материал, literally “compromising material”) is the Russian term for compromising materials about a politician or other public figure. Such materials can be used to create negative publicity, for blackmail, or for ensuring loyalty.
