From the mayor of Netanya, Israel:
The National Monument commemorating the victory of the Red Army over Nazi Germany, which was erected on the shores of the city of Netanya, praises formative moments in the history of humanity, marked by cooperation, determination, supreme heroism and belief in mankind.
World War II was the biggest and most terrible war in human history. Millions of people around the entire world perished at the hands of the Nazi beast, including six million Jews: men, women and children.
The soldiers of the Red Army halted with their own bodies the horrors and brutality of that war. Thus, this memorial built in our city, is a moral debt and a tribute to those millions of soldiers and casualties .
Due to its historical and national importance, the monument was inaugurated in the presence of Russian President Mr. Vladimir Putin and Israeli President Mr. Shimon Peres—great and exemplary leaders.
I would like to extend my gratitude to all the participants in the creation of this unique memorial, which will eternally remember those who fell and honor the victorious.
Sincerely,
Miriam Fierberg-Ikar
Mayor of Netanya, Israel
