Zambia: ZCCM-IH hires Rothschild & Co to support strategic review of Mopani Copper Mines
Quote from Timothy Fitzpatrick on July 3, 2022, 19:51According to the media dated June 15, 2022, Zambia's state-owned company ZCCM-IH will "ensure sustainability and continuous development" of Mopani Copper Mines (MCM) on June 15, 2022.
Announced a contract with investment bank Rothschild & Co., South Africa (Pty) Ltd (Rothschild & Co) for review. ZCCM-IH said in April 2022 that it was looking for a financial advisor to rebuild MCM and help find new investors in the mining facility sold by Glencore in January 2021.
Copper production in mining and smelting complexes established over 90 years ago is declining. In a statement, ZCCM-IH said, "We will work to help MCM achieve the country's goal of achieving optimal production levels and achieving copper production of 3 million tons / year by 2030." It has said.
The strategic review is expected to be completed within 6-12 months, and Rothschild & Co's involvement does not interfere with the operation of the mine, ZCCM-IH said.
ZCCM-IH said Rothschild & Co was selected through a competitive procurement process involving five domestic and foreign companies.
