Netanyahu announced the decision to appoint Hoffman to this position in December 2025. In this position, Hoffman will succeed David Barnea, whose five-year term of office expires in June 2026.
Hoffman was born in 1976 in the Belarusian city of Mozyr. In 1990, he and his parents were repatriated to Israel, where in 1995 he was called up for military service in the armored forces. Later, he completed officer courses and commanded various army units up to the level of a division. In 2022, he headed the National Ground Forces Exercise Center, and in May 2024, he became Secretary of War Netanyahu.
