Putin: 'We understand what destructive consequences any connivance with nationalism, anti-Semitism, xenophobia leads to'

Political scientist Adzhamyan appreciated the appeal of Vladimir Putin to the Jews on the Day of Salvation and Liberation

Member of the expert club "Digoria" Norat Adzhamyan assessed the appeal of Russian President Vladimir Putin to Jews around the world on the Day of Salvation and Liberation, May 17.

According to the political scientist, this appeal of the head of state reminded the Jews of the feat of the Red Army soldiers in the victory over Nazi Germany.

“The Soviet soldier protected and saved many peoples, including Jews. Actually, about 40% of all murdered Jews were citizens of the USSR, so this tragedy resonates with particular pain in our hearts. By the way, let me remind you that it was the soldiers of the Red Army who liberated the prisoners of the largest mass extermination camp - Auschwitz, ”— said the political scientist.

“We hope that the Jews of the whole world, and Israel in particular, will always remember the feat of the soldiers of the Red Army,” Adzhamyan continued. - For us, this is of particular importance now, given the attempts to distort history, downplay the role of the Soviet Union in the Victory over Nazi Germany. Today, a number of Western countries turn a blind eye to the fact that the Kyiv authorities are pursuing a policy of glorifying Ukrainian collaborators who collaborate with the Nazis. Post-Maidan Ukraine is still “at war” with Soviet monuments, including those dedicated to those people who just opposed the brown plague. In general, the current government of Ukraine continues to actively rewrite history in order to whitewash collaborators as much as possible.”

“Despite the fact that the US and the UK were among the allied countries, on their part we do not see any condemnation of the historical distortions that the Ukrainian authorities are carrying out. On the contrary, this policy of Kyiv is rather beneficial for them, because its essence, first of all, is aimed at erasing the common historical memory that unites the peoples of the former USSR,”- added the Digoria expert.

“Our task is not to forget the fallen heroes in the fight against the brown plague, to remind that the soldiers of the Red Army made a decisive contribution to the Victory over Nazi Germany, thereby defending the freedom and the very right to exist for many nations,” the political scientist concluded.

In the course of his message to Russian Jews and those who celebrate the Day of Salvation and Liberation, the President stated that it is necessary to "preserve the historical truth about the Second World War."

The head of state noted that the participants in the military operation in Ukraine are fighting "with direct followers of Nazism."

“Both we and future generations must sacredly keep the historical truth about the Second World War, understand what destructive consequences any connivance with nationalism, anti-Semitism, xenophobia leads to. It is with the direct followers of Nazism that our fighters and commanders are fighting today in the course of a special military operation, ”the president said in a telegram.
