Mark Carney was a member of the steering committee of the transatlantic organization Bilderberg since June 2020. He only recently left office, in mid-January 2025.
He attended the group's conferences in 2011 and 2012, in 2018 and 2019, and from 2022 to 2024, according to a Bilderberg spokesperson contacted by our Investigation Office.
In this capacity, he notably encountered Jared Kushner, President Donald Trump's son-in-law, in 2019.
"Bilderberg's guest list reads like a conspiracy theorist's directory of who rules the world," wrote The Guardian newspaper last year.
Several Bilderberg conferences have taken place under intense tension and police surveillance in recent years, as protesters have protested the controversial event.
Established in 1954, Bilderberg brings together between 120 and 140 people each year for three days, mostly Americans and Europeans, who are allowed to attend the event by invitation only.
No Minutes
The annual event is shrouded in secrecy; since there are no public minutes of the discussions, participants are not restricted in their official positions.
"There is no detailed agenda, no resolutions are proposed, no votes are taken, and no policy statements are issued," states the Bilderberg website.
The club takes its name from the Bilderberg Hotel in the Netherlands, where the group's first conference was held in 1954.
The organization is so secretive that it has no logo and displays no images on its website.
"In the context of a globalized world, it's difficult to think of an issue in either Europe or North America that can be addressed unilaterally," the website explains.
The most recent conference, held from May 30 to June 2, 2024, in Madrid, Spain, focused on topics such as artificial intelligence, climate, the future of war, the American political landscape, Ukraine and the world, China, and Russia.
While not members like Mark Carney, former Canadian prime ministers Pierre Elliott Trudeau, Jean Chrétien, Paul Martin, and Stephen Harper have attended Bilderberg conferences in the past.
Central Role
The steering committee, of which Carney was a member, currently composed of 30 people, is responsible for preparing the meeting's program and ensuring the selection of participants.
It is the committee that controls the agenda and establishes the list of participants. It chooses the topics to be discussed and by whom, according to the British newspaper The Independent.
Mark Carney had not yet responded at the time of publication.
