Israeli equipment was purchased to protect the residences of Putin and Lukashenko

19.02.2013

The Russian Federal Security Service, which is responsible for the security of government agencies, has purchased anti-ram emergency vehicle blocking systems from Israel.

A batch of blockers (security bollards) for a total amount of 74 million rubles (9 million shekels) was purchased by VST-Special Equipment as part of a government order for 2013.

The purchased systems are poles that move out of the ground within five seconds and are able to withstand the impact of a truck approaching the protected object at high speed.

Installation of blockers purchased to prevent terrorist attacks using car bombs should be completed before the end of the year. The company did not provide a list of objects that will be provided with protective systems, however, the publication reports that such systems have already been installed in the Kremlin, the State Duma, the Government House, the country residence of the head of government in Gorki, at the presidential dachas Barvikha and Zubalovo, as well as in the Tauride Palace in St. Petersburg and at the presidential dacha "Bocharov Ruchey" in Sochi.

According to representatives of the FSO, earlier, to protect such objects from car rams, a net thrown towards a moving vehicle was used, but it could only stop a car.

Israeli blockers were also purchased to protect the residence of Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko in Minsk from car attacks. It was this information that the Belarusian opposition websites "Charter 97" ("Lukashenko is afraid of the storming of the residence") and "Belarusian partisan" ("Israeli blockers were purchased for Lukashenka's residence") made headlines.
