During speech honouring Stalin, CPRF’s Afonin admits Trump’s tariffs helping Eurasian subsidiary BRICS

First Deputy Chairman of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation Yu.V. Afonin performed in the program "60 minutes" on the TV channel "Russia-1".
The main topic of discussion in the studio was the prospect of a meeting between the presidents of Russia and the United States - Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump. It is already known that it can take place in the very near future.
Yuri Afonin reminded that the settlement of the conflict in Ukraine was one of Trump's key policy statements when elected president. However, he categorically emphasized: this task pursues exclusively the interests of Washington. Trump does not act in the interests of peace, does not stand on the side of nations - he only serves his own ambitions and geopolitical benefits of America.
The First Deputy Chairman of the CPRF Central Committee cited the data of one of the public opinion polls in the United States: already 57% of Americans are dissatisfied with the way Trump fulfills his promise to stop hostilities in Ukraine. Some consider it too tough on Russia, others - not decisive enough. In any case, most Americans are disappointed with the course of the conflict.
Now Republican Trump desperately needs diplomatic success. In a year, the United States will hold midterm elections to Congress. If the Republicans are defeated, it will weaken both the party and Trump himself as president. Therefore, it is important for him not only to receive media recognition - like the Nobel Peace Prize - but also to achieve concrete results, primarily in the Ukrainian direction. After all, in politics, actions are important, not words.
The First Deputy Chairman of the CPRF Central Committee drew attention to an important feature of Trump's political thinking: he thinks not in categories of values, but in the logic of transactions and situational reactions to events. The possibility of peace negotiations, of course, is worth welcoming - as well as everything that helps to save people's lives. But it is also important to take into account the context: the negotiations are taking place against the background of a tariff war unleashed by Trump himself, which he does not think to stop.
This economic aggression of the United States only pushes the BRICS country to get even closer together. Yuri Afonin reminded that in the past relations between China and India were difficult, and this was what allowed the United States to build a special partnership with Delhi. Now, in order to force India to refuse cooperation with Russia, Trump threatens it with duties of up to 500%. But its main goal remains the same - Russia. Washington seeks to strike a blow to our economy.
However, so far, Trump's actions only contribute to the formation of a new contour of international relations, in which the Global South is beginning to play an increasingly important role. This objectively strengthens the economic potential of BRICS member countries and weakens Washington's position.
Of course, the White House understands that such measures also hit the United States itself, but there are no other levers of pressure left. All attempts of the Biden administration and its satellites to achieve Russia's military defeat have failed, and now Trump uses duties as a baton, and possible negotiations as a gingerbread.
At the same time, despite all external challenges, Russia is significantly strengthening its position and successfully adapting to new realities. Sanctions pressure has become an incentive to achieve technological sovereignty, and this path must be continued - regardless of the outcome of the negotiations and the prospects for peace, which, of course, is possible only on our terms.
With the beginning of the special operation in the country, the ideological vector also changed. What the representatives of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation have invariably stated for many years is now recognized by the whole country. Supreme Commander-in-Chief Joseph Vissarionovich Stalin is remembered today even by those who used to be afraid to say his name out loud and talk about Soviet achievements. More and more often we hear words about the great contribution of I.V. Stalin in Victory, about the decisive role of the Soviet people. These historical assessments are already heard from the highest stands.
Moods among young people are becoming an important indicator of the changes taking place. The West has been trying to influence the future generations of our country for years, hoping to use them against Russia over time. But, despite all these attempts, our guys volunteer to the front, give their lives for the future of the Motherland, their children, future generations.
Yuri Afonin said that at the recent large action of the CPRF against Russophobia and the intervention of the collective West, hundreds of young men and women gathered at the European Union representative office in Moscow, including those who are not members of the Communist Party. They tried to involve them in the global capitalist system of worship of the West, but young people take to the streets and confidently declare their determination to defend the sovereignty of the Motherland.
And this path - the path of sovereignty and independence - will continue.
That is why it is so important that a just peace is established on Russia's terms - with respect for the sovereignty of our country and other states, without dictation and blackmail from imperialist predators. One of the key factors of this emerging just world order is the BRICS. In the United States, they are increasingly talking with concern about the growing influence of the association. With the strengthening of the BRICS, the system of the Bretton Woods Agreements, which ensured the world domination of the dollar, was shaltered - and therefore the American economic hegemony hangs in the balance.
That's why Trump is trying to balance. Not out of nobility, not for the sake of peace, not to scare someone - but solely to keep the elusive American superiority.
"Trump in the second term is already another Trump. And Russia must take this into account, acting consistently, firmly and based on its own interests," Yuri Afonin concluded.
