Aeroflot will conclude an agreement on leasing two Boeing 737-900 aircraft. One of them, according to RBC , will be named after the founder of the Liberal Democratic Party, Vladimir Zhirinovsky, who died in April 2022. The second will be named after the poet Gavriil Derzhavin. First, the aircraft will be operated by the Rossiya airline, which is part of the Aeroflot group, then by Aeroflot itself.
The publication notes that the deputy head of the LDPR faction, Yaroslav Nilov, six months ago, appealed to the airline’s management with a request to perpetuate the memory of Zhirinovsky and name the aircraft in his honor. “During takeoff or landing, when the crew announces that the aircraft is named after a certain person, this attracts the attention of passengers and stimulates them to search for additional cognitive information about this person, to broaden their horizons, to study new pages in the history of their native country,” Nilov explained.
