As it became known yesterday, Russian President Vladimir Putin will pay a two-day visit to Israel at the end of April. This was announced on Tuesday by an aide to Moshe Katsav, at whose invitation the Russian president’s trip will take place.

Mass media around the world note the historical nature of the upcoming visit of the Russian president to Israel. Earlier, Mikhail Gorbachev and Boris Yeltsin visited the Jewish state, but they came after the expiration of their term of office.

Meanwhile, the Israeli news agency Ynet reported today that “… this is Putin’s third visit to Israel, but the first as Russian leader. At the dawn of his political career, in 1967 and 1996, Putin already visited the Jewish state,” they write Israeli journalists Itama Eichner and Zvi Singer.

Recall that Russian President Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin was born on October 7, 1952 in Leningrad.
